Monday, Dec. 29
What: Fortune Feimster’s Takin’ Care of Biscuits Comedy Tour
When: Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
Where: The Eccles Theater
What’s happening: Fortune Feimster is bringing her confessional storytelling to Salt Lake City. The comedian, writer and actor uses her humor to unite audiences from all backgrounds.
One Cool Thing: Fortune Feimster first got national attention while competing on NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2010.
Tuesday, Dec. 30
What: Deer Valley Torchlight Parade
When: Dec. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Deer Valley
What’s happening: Guests can watch the resort’s annual Torchlight Parade as it illuminates the Big Stick run behind the Snow Park Lodge at 6 p.m.
One Cool Thing: Torchlight Parades are a popular tradition at several ski resorts.
What: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in Concert
When: Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.
Where: Maurice Abravanel Hall
What’s happening: Join the Utah Symphony as Luke Skywalker trains to confront Darth Vader. The group will play the film’s score, written by John William, as the film is projected behind them.
One Cool Thing: Before the show, there will be an opportunity to participate in Star Wars trivia.
Wednesday, Dec. 31(New Year’s Eve)
What: Noon Year’s Eve
When: Dec. 31 at 11 a.m.
Where: Kimball Art Center
What’s happening: Include your children in this year’s New Year’s festivities. During the event, they’ll be invited to decorate crowns, make photo frames and enjoy snacks. This event is $35 per child and adults are free.
One Cool Thing: Kimball Art Center regularly brings art opportunities to the Park City community.
What: SLC NYE at The Complex
When: Dec. 31 at 7 p.m.
Where: The Complex
What’s happening: The Complex will be hosting a selection of electronic musicians to ring in the new year. The lineup includes Sara Landry and Biianco.
One Cool Thing: This event is open to those over the age of 18.
Thursday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day)
What: First Day Hikes
When: Jan. 1
Where: Utah State Parks
What’s happening: Stick to your New Year’s resolution of getting outside more with a First Day Hike, hosted by state park rangers across the state. Venues include Antelope Island, Jordanelle and Wasatch Mountain state parks.
One Cool Thing: There will be a variety of hikes offered, catering to many skill levels.
Friday, Jan. 2
What: Utah Gymnastics vs Iowa & Minnesota
When: Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.
Where: Jon M. Huntsman Center
What’s happening: University of Utah gymnasts compete against teams from Iowa and Minnesota. Tickets are $5.
One Cool Thing: The Huntsman Center has a reputation as one of the top college sports venues.
Saturday, Jan. 3
What: Early Bird
When: Jan. 3 at 6 p.m.
Where: Kilby Court
What’s happening: Shake off the post-holiday blues with a high-energy performance from a Salt Lake-based band known for introspective lyrics and creative melodies.
One Cool Thing: The show also features sets from Lemon Bread, Runaway Fighter and Gayt.
Sunday, Jan. 4
What: Wheeler Farm Winter Sunday Market
When: Jan. 4 – April 12 at 9 a.m.
Where: Wheeler Farn
What’s happening: Featuring local produce and handmade goods, the Wheeler Farm Winter Market happens each Sunday (except April 5) beginning on Jan. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m in the Education Center.
