The Broadway Center Cinemas (often simply called the Broadway) is a six-screen art-house movie theater in downtown Salt Lake City, operated by the Salt Lake Film Society (SLFS). Located at 111 E Broadway (300 S), it has become a pivotal venue for independent, foreign, documentary, and specialty films—movies that many mainstream multiplexes tend to overlook.
SLFS took over the theater in 2002, converting it into its flagship film venue where many of its curated programs, film festivals, repertory screenings, and community‐oriented cinema events are shown. During the COVID‐19 pandemic, Broadway was closed for about 19 months. It finally reopened in October 2021, continuing its role as the heart of SLFS’s public film programming while its other location, the Tower Theatre, undergoes restoration and renovation.
The Broadway is more than just a theater—it acts as SLFS’s “mothership.” It supports the organization financially by showing multiple films across its six screens, enabling diverse film offerings and helping sustain the nonprofit mission of film exhibition, education, and preservation throughout the community.
