Aviva’s Love Local Holiday Gift Guide:
I booked a 90 minute massage at the spa at Sundance Mountain Resort. Masks are required and it’s just you and your massage therapist, which made me feel incredibly comfortable.
Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by the front desk. The aromas entering were foreshadowing of the experience that awaits. I was given a lovely Sundance tote and taken back to change for my massage. Anissa, my massage therapist gave me slippers and a plush robe, and guided me to the fireplace where she prepared a hot foot soak. Cedar, orange peel and vanilla. Anissa then takes me to a private room, lovely Native American flute music and continued inviting aromas. For 90 minutes, with the exception of my ever present mask, I left covid anxiety behind and was transported to serenity. This massage experience was truly lovely. I don’t “pamper” myself often, especially during covid, however the stress was evident throughout my body. Anissa and The Spa at Sundance was a gift. I highly recommend this de-stressing experience.

Tobi Roberts and her husband Mike (who you might recognize as ‘Mortgage Mike’ from their billboards) started City Creek Mortgage together in their 20’s. They had previously owned a construction company and saw first-hand the difficulty people were having trying to get home loans and “we knew we could do it better,” Tobi says. Her goal was to save people money while delivering a 5-star client experience. Twenty-three years later, Tobi, CEO and Co-founder of City Creek Mortgage has created a set of core values and hires employees who passionately believe in them. Straying from traditional “high-commission” loan officers, City Creek Mortgage has instead chosen to employ salary-based loan officers. She says, “We don’t have loan officers who are working for a high commission and competing with each other. We all work together to save our clients money and represent their interests.”
“But savings isn’t enough,” says Tobi. “You have to provide a 5-star experience for the client as well. You are dealing with people’s money and their emotions.” A quick look at the more than 1000 5-Star Google Reviews City Creek Mortgage has earned reveals the company’s commitment to top-notch service. When you step into Tobi’s office it is apparent from the many books that line the shelves that she believes in being “shelf-educated” to ensure constant learning, and she adds, “to become better for your clients.”
Now with more than 20 years of experience, Roberts has not only laid out, but lives out City Creek Mortgage’s core values: Always Do the Right Thing | Take Personal Responsibility Continuous Improvement | Take Care of Each Other | Create Raving Fans Tobi is most proud of City Creek Mortgage’s transparency in their rates and fees. “We place them on billboards and on the front page of our web site,” she says. “You can see clearly how much you will save without ever providing your personal information. That’s unique to the mortgage industry.”

Q: How did The Rose Clinic get its start?
A: Dr. Rose essentially just hung up a shingle and started his own private practice after residency and has never looked back. Recently, the clinic has taken a huge leap forward with the vision, drive, business sense and work ethic of his wife, Kami which has been critical to the success of The Rose Clinic.
Q: Did you know?
A: Dr. Rose was the first in Utah to offer the new Renuvion (J-Plasma) skin tightening, which is used immediately after liposuction to cause another 40% tighter skin effect.
Q: What’s New at The Rose Center?
A: What isn’t new!? We are in an 8,000 square foot brand new facility in a new location in Orem. We opened up our very own Rose Surgery Center and the Rose Spa. Our facility is not only beautiful but very functional. Our employees are an essential part of our success—a wonderful team. The only thing that stayed the same is Dr. Rose’s impeccable surgical skills and the eye of an artist.

I think we can all agree that 2020 has been an incredibly stressful year. Every month seems to bring something new to worry about and the winter season is slowly creeping in, bringing with it shorter days and triggering seasonal depression. There’s been a lot of weight on our shoulders and I for one have been feeling run down.
So I was pleasantly surprised when St. Regis at Deer Valley reached out to me to experience their Remède Spa, which has implemented innovative COVID-friendly ways to keep their guests feeling safe, secure and most importantly, relaxed.

Spa Director, Benjamin Donat
Upon arrival, I spoke with the new Spa Director, Benjamin Donat. “It’s funny,” Benjamin said, “cleanliness has always been a huge priority. But we never wanted to be seen by the guests. Things are different now. We want guest to know how important cleanliness is to St. Regis and the Remède Spa. And guests are happy to see us sanitizing and wiping every surface down.”
I’ll be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about getting a spa treatment. So I asked Benjamin how the spa has been dealing with COVID-19. He explained that St. Regis follows guidelines set forth by the CDC and the World Health Organization and continuously monitor and evolve their solutions to ensure a continued sense of caution and security for guests and associates.
Solutions include consistent mask wearing by all hotel and spa employees, temperature checking, sanitizer is easily accessible throughout the hotel and spa, spa guests must wear a mask during their spa treatments, deep cleaning of all spa rooms and spa amenities and spa services require an appointment that must be booked in advance.
After hearing about all the guidelines Remède Spa is following I was ready for my treatment. I decided to go with the hot poultice massage. (I took up running in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown and frankly haven’t been doing the correct stretches after my runs, so this treatment was perfect.) The poultice combines herbs wrapped in cloth and a customized oil which is then steamed and used to massage fatigued muscles. The heat of the poultice relieved soreness and penetrated muscles I had been neglecting for quite a while. This treatment completely rebalanced my body. And while I wore a mask the entire treatment, I was so relaxed that I forgot I had it on.
My massage therapist, Angelica, said it best. “We all need to take small moments for ourselves. Away from the news, away from the current worry of the world. We all deserve self care, it just takes making the time for ourselves.” Now more than ever we need to take breaks. Whether that’s treating yourself to an 80 minute massage, or just sitting in a quiet room, make sure you take small moments for yourself to decompress.
Remède Spa is currently offering Utah residents 20% off massages and facial treatments and complimentary enhancements when you book any massage. (Enhancements include Soothing Shae, a hydration treatment; Cold Therapy, a treatment for pain; or a CBD enhancement.)

Libby Bauman, RN, a valued member of the team in Salt Lake City, is an Aesthetic Nursing Specialist certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. With over 11 years of experience, she specializes in cosmetic injectables like BotoxTM , DysportTM and fillers. “We have assembled an incredible and very talented team here in Salt Lake City,” says Bauman, “and we work very well together. A happy team makes for happy clients and the work-life balance is a leading emphasis here. A strong work culture leads to long-term loyalty — our people stay with SkinSpirit because they feel valued and appreciated.”
“Our approach with all clients is that they feel like family. Everything we do is science-based,” says Bauman. SkinSpirit has always been transparent in its goals. During this year with COVID and temporary setbacks, CEO Lynn Heublein made sure that all 250 employees were paid and taken care of. What makes SkinSpirit stand out?

Why is having medical professionally trained staff significant?
“Our strong and specialized medical backgrounds ultimately bring a more favorable and beautiful result: less pain, more science. Making our clients happy is the ultimate outcome.”
What’s your favorite skin treatment?
“My favorite treatment hands down is Sculptra. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that has gained popularity in recent years — it’s unlike a traditional hyaluronic acid filler. Sculptra is a “bio stimulator” that stimulates your own collagen production, which helps to restore facial volume. Sculptra also enhances the tone, texture, and integrity of your skin, sometimes referred to as the “Sculptra Glow.” Sculptra evolves gradually so your results are natural and long-lasting, sometimes longer than two years. Typically patients see results in eight weeks and maintain with one or two vials annually. Your birthday is a good time and a reminder to come in for maintenance.”

K. Rocke Design started with the desire to elevate interiors by pairing the finest finishes with true free- dom in design. K. Rocke is not subject to a particular furniture company, architecture firm or individual builder, which opens up new and exciting possibilities. Their team provides a wide and diverse background, always growing and learning by taking on new challenges, never looking backward. Kristin says, “As leaders, we are the ‘get it done’ type of people, and our hard work is coupled with talent and taste. In an industry packed full of creative people, it’s part of what makes us truly stand out.”
With an impeccable portfolio and over 17 years as an NCIDQ Interior Designer, Kristin Rocke has noticed that this year the trend is noticeably more toward multiple residences. “Our clients trust us to push the envelope and take them somewhere unexpected, knowing that each project ultimately represents their individuality,” she says, “Our women-led team is continually paying attention to what’s going on around us to discover the ideal design for our clients.” Kristin says, “The most rewarding part of excellent design is in its final presentation when all components come magically together, bringing out both the best in the home and those living there.”

Mara Mazdzer’s Fuse Weddings & Events is still hard at work finding ways to help their clients find meaningful ways to celebrate their most important events safely.
“Due to the pandemic we’ve shifted from events with big guest lists and really refined our approach to celebrations in an intimate application,” Mara says. “We’ve gotten really creative in our planning to ensure these intimate celebrations are full of just as much love, joy and merriment as a traditional wedding would be pre-COVID.”
For example, the high-profile wedding of a Fuse client who coaches in the NBA had to be re-planned in just 17 days after the groom learned he’d be going to Florida for the duration of the basketball season.
“The original wedding date in August was no longer possible,” Mara says. “So the bride brought us on board to make it happen.”
Mara founded Fuse Weddings & Events 11 years ago. The boutique event planning and design studio based in Salt Lake City specializes in destination-Utah weddings in Park City as well as social and special events across the state. She prides herself on creating specialized experiences for her clients and their guests.
“We spend a lot of time getting to know our clients on a personal level, which allows us to infuse their celebration with personal touches and nods to their relationship, experiences together, and plans for the future,” Mara says. “It’s not uncommon for us to receive emails from guests after an event letting us know that they saw or experienced something extraordinary for the first time at our event.”
918 S. 500 West, Suite C, SLC 801-512-2075 ignite@fuzeweddingsandevents.com
Mara got into the event business as a private event coordinator at a nightclub space downtown that worked very closely with the Salt Palace Convention Center. She had the opportunity to work with big-name companies like Chevron Oil, Brooks Running, Jansport and Dell Computers.
“Corporate clients are always looking for unique ways to brand an event and make it unique, so much of that has carried over into my social event design,” she says. “My parents and I are Romanian, we immigrated to the US when I was really little. Although I grew up in Utah, I spent my childhood at gatherings full of food (always so much food!), friends and family. My love for bringing people together started at a really young age. I love to celebrate and I’m very sentimental. Having the opportunity to make a career out of marrying those two passions has been incredibly rewarding.”
So what else is new? “We’ve widened our service offerings to include options that allow for the re-planning of an event that would have been elsewhere or would have been larger but has to be reconsidered to take place on a different date, with fewer guests, or in a completely different location.”
