For Leah Wynn of Inside Out Architecturals, design sensibility started in part by her mother, Joyce Quayle Phil, after watching her throughout her career as a buyer for Leavitt’s Furniture.
“We were always paying attention to window displays as we drove past them,” Wynn recalls. That early attention to detail, paired with her father’s appreciation for architecture, became the foundation for how she sees the built world today.
Wynn originally studied interior design at Weber State University before expanding into technical sales and service, followed by early work in merchandising. That blend of creative and commercial experience eventually led her into the world of architectural tile selection and design consultation, where she helps clients choose surface materials that define residential and commercial spaces through Inside Out Architecturals.
“This industry is not for the faint of heart and it’s much more difficult than people would realize,” Wynn explains, noting the level of precision required in both design and client expectations. Working in custom materials adds another layer of complexity.
“The risk is in the high-end. Everyone sees art and color differently — but that’s where we come in.”
For Wynn, tile is not a finishing touch but a permanent design language. That permanence is part of what drew her deeper into the field, where artistry and architecture meet in everyday spaces.
Wynn challenges people to design their spaces as a way to tell their story through customization. “Don’t be neutral,” Wynn explains. “Customize your space and be you!”
