The Sundance Film Festival, taking place Jan. 22 through Feb. 1, announced its 2026 lineup today. Programming includes 90 feature films and seven episodic projects, along with at-home screenings and the newly introduced Park City Legacy program. As the final year hosted in the Beehive State, the 2026 festival will reflect on Utah’s enduring impact on visual storytelling, and honor its beloved founder, the late Robert Redford. “As we prepare to gather for this landmark edition of our Festival in a cherished locale, we’re also honoring the enduring impact of our beloved founder, Robert Redford, and celebrating what he created: a dynamic home for independent, global storytelling,” said Eugene Hernandez, Director, Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming.
During the second half of the festival, the Park City Legacy Program will present archival/restored screenings of iconic films premiered at previous festivals, artist discussions with Festival alumni and special appearances by cast members. Audiences will have an opportunity to see brand-new digital restorations of films like Little Miss Sunshine (2006), House Party (1990), Half Nelson (2006), American Dream (1991) and a recent restoration of Saw (2004). To commemorate Robert Redford’s dedication to independent cinema, the Legacy programming will also include a special screening of Downhill Racer (1969); Redford’s first independent film and a catalyst to the creation of the Sundance Institute.
In addition to archival screenings, the Park City Legacy program will supplement the Beyond Film series with special talks at the Egyptian Theatre, one of the first venues for the Sundance Film Festival celebrating 100 years as the “Jewel of Main Street.” On January 30th, the theatre will host a culmination event for the public—more details to come.
To kick off the 2026 season, the festival’s annual fundraiser—Celebrating Sundance Institute: A Tribute to Founder Robert Redford—will take place on January 23 at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley. In honoring Redford’s legacy, vision and enduring mission to support independent storytellers, the Institute will award the inaugural Robert Redford Luminary Awards to two legendary storytellers: Ed Harris and Gyula Gazdag.
The full scope of the 2026 Sundance films include 90 feature-length films representing 28 countries, including 40% of feature film directors who are first time feature filmmakers, and 97% of feature films which are world premieres.
