Summer is here, and that means The Utah Arts Festival is right around the corner. The festival returns this summer bringing live music, artists, performing arts and hands-on activities. You know the drill, now let’s check the roster.
Arts Fest Amplified
This year’s festival will be launching a new series called, Arts Fest Amplified, which will feature artists, Ron Pope, Gomez, A-Trak, People Under the Stairs and St. Paul and the Broken Bones. The Amplfied concerts will take place on the Amphitheater Stage and require a special ticket (that includes general Arts Fest admission).
Ron Pope
From Nashville, Ron Pope has been entertaining crowds for years with his music and ability to tell stories through his songs. He has sold out shows on three continents and runs Brooklyn Basement Records along with his wife, Blair Clark. He will be performing on Thursday, June 21 at 8 p.m.
Gomez
Gomez is an indie rock band based out of Southport, U.K. The band is known for their musical experimentation along with their freewheeling lyrical styles. Since their first album release in 1998 the band has continued to evolve throughout the years. They will be performing Thursday, June 21 at 9:30 p.m.
A-Trak
Friday’s show will feature the one and only, A-Trak. Originally from Canada, A-Trak started his career young. At age 15, A-Trak won his first DJ competition (DMC World DJ Championship). He also became the first DJ to win five World championships. Currently, he owns his own label, Fool’s Gold Records. This past year Fool’s Gold hosted their first ever DJ competition which sold out it’s first ever show. Whether you’re an aspiring DJ or just coming out to listen to live music, this will be a great show.
People Under The Stairs
Hailing from Los Angeles, People Under The Stairs is a hip-hop duo that have been producing music for nearly two decades. They have nine albums with a tenth on the way. Their name comes from them taking a different path than most hip-hop artists by forming large collectives and seeking as much of the spotlight as possible. They have been featured on The Simpson’s 20th anniversary special and have performed at prominent festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella and Glastonbury. They will be performing Saturday, July 23 at 9:45 p.m.
St. Paul and the Broken Bones
Known for their soul-infused rock, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, have been praised for their second full-length album titled, “Sea of Noise.” Much of their musical inspiration comes from legends, Sly Stone, David Bowie and Prince. Much of their new album touches on themes of redemption, hope and salvation. They will the concluding performance of the arts festival. Make sure to catch them on stage Sunday, July 24 at 8:30 p.m.
