Join us for an artist talk with UMOCA artist-in-residence Holly Rios, whose exhibition “I’d like to Return this Body” examines the intersections of media, beauty standards and technology. Trained as a printmaker, Rios employs methods of erasure and image appropriation to investigate the Playboy empire as a cultural data set that began shaping and reinforcing American beauty ideals in the 1950s.
In this talk, Rios will explore the intersection of sexuality and capitalism in her work, unpacking the quiet but powerful ways these systems influence our perception of bodies and beauty.
Admission is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
