2011 Voices of the Civil War

This is the Place Heritage Park brought history to life with the Voices of the Civil War event on Aug. 12 and 13. Re-enactors portraying soldiers, as well as civilians including women and children, gave guests an impression of what life was like during the Civil War. Union and Confederate soldiers engaged in mock battles and fired cannons. New this year, a fashion show was set up to show guests what was worn during the time period, and the park focused on what it was like for ordinary citizens during the war. Replicas were set up, and guests could fill out enlistment papers, have regimental surgeons certify if they are fit for battle and receive rations. Guests cold also learn about the Underground Railroad and meet the descendants of Civil War veterans.
