With about 12,000 runners and walkers, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure raised more than $500,000 to help fight breast cancer on May 11 in downtown, SLC. The race included a 1-mile run/walk and a 5K run/walk, and Color Me Rad splashed many who crossed the finish line near Library Square with pink cornstarch. The Susan G. Komen foundation also held a dove release and survivor parade, and singer Jen Marco and Auld'sKool Band performed the song "I Run for Life." Other bands, including Calico Sage, The Compilations, HiFi Cool Bus, the Landon Packer Band and ZamTrip, played along the course for participants. And a tribute wall was set up for people to leave messages of hope to others affected by breast cancer. Out of the cancer survivors, Mandy Fuhriman was the top female runner and Mike Sheffield was the top male runner. Gail Winterfeld, who raised over $6,000, and The Pink Warriors, who raised over $8,000, were the year’s top fundraisers.
