Night for African Sight

The Moran Eye Center raised more than $125,000 for the International Division of Ophthalmology and the Himalayan Cataract Project, at the Night for African Sight at Snowbird Resort on Feb. 26. The evening began with a reception, silent auction and music by Djembe Direct. Afterward, guests were served dinner and a live auction led by Dr. Alan Crandall was held. Visually-impaired artist Reds Regan donated a large painting for the event and photographer Ace Kvale's photos from Africa were on display. Director of the Moran's International Division and co-founder of the Himalayan Cateract Project Dr. Geoffrey Tabin and his fellow mountaineer Timmy O'Neill gave keynote speeches. Another highlight was the presentation by mountaineer Neil Beidleman, whose 1996 Everest expedition was featured in Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air.
