To kick off Dine O' Round, a half month of deals at SLC restaurants, the Downtown Farmers Market hosted the Chef Showdown in Pioneer Park on Sept. 15. Chefs Matt Lake of ZY, Erik Daniel of Plum Alley and David Tofte of Pallet created appetizers for market-goers to nosh during the competition, where chefs entered a main dish and dessert created on the spot using the secret ingredient, pears. Judges were Becky Rosenthal of SLC Foodie/Vintage Mixer, Chantelle Bourdeaux of A Priori Foods, Andrew Wallace of Downtown Alliance and editor of Salt Lake magazine Marcie Young Cancio. The winner of the competition was ZY's chef, who made dungeness crab with cucumber, fresh corn, pear and herbs along with a basil pear and plum crumble.
