La Sal Mountain Explorer Base Camp for Kids

Another term is available for July 9–12, 2013. Eco-adventure for kids. Learn cool stuff about our woods and wildlife at a base camp in the La Sal Mountains, 30 minutes from Moab. This is an exciting opportunity for kids entering 5th through 8th grades to participate in an awesome learning adventure during the summer.

Cache Valley Melt Mobile Stop

The Cache Valley® Melt Mobile is set to serve up free grilled cheese sandwiches and help in the fight against hunger this summer. Each stop will feature a donation bin to collect nonperishables for the Utah Food Bank. People can also donate grocery items or money via utahfoodbank.org/cachevalleycheese. The Cache Valley Melt Mobile aims to help Cache Valley connect with its neighbors and customers, and raise awareness of Cache Valley Cares, a partnership with the Utah Food Bank to help fight hunger.

Introduced last year, the Cache Valley Melt Mobile food truck was a big hit at local events, traveling 1,059 miles and serving more than 23,000 grilled cheese samples. Last year alone, Cache Valley donated more than $20,000 to the Utah Food Bank, which helped provide more than 7,800 meals and feed thousands of local families.

Salty Cricket Composers Collective and Wind Quintet Presents "Blowin' in the Wind"

Tickets purchased July 10 are half price!

A Utah-based wind quintet, all of whom are Utah Symphony musicians, will offer a pleasant and melodic concert this Thursday evening at the Ladies Literary Club Building, as an introduction to the world of modern classical music. Those new to the modern classical scene will get a taste of minimalistic, post-romantic, impressionistic and other accessible flavors of the modern age, while veterans will appreciate the wide range of talent presented.

Pieces performed written by Utah-based composers Ester Megargel, Margot Glassett Murdoch, John Newman, M. Ryan Taylor, Nicolet Singleton and Josie Twining.

The quintet features Utah Symphony's Principal Flute Mercedes Smith, Principal Clarinet Tad Calcara, Assistant Principal Oboe James Hall, Principal Bassoon Lori Wike, and Horn Llewelyn Humphreys.

The concert, curated by the Salty Cricket Composer Collective, an organization dedicated solely to the advancement of living Utah-based composers, begins July 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ladies Literary Club Building located at 850 E. South Temple.

A Taste of Utah: Cache County

Twilight Concert Series: Belle and Sebastian / Blitzen Trapper

The Cache Valley® Melt Mobile is set to serve up free grilled cheese sandwiches and help in the fight against hunger this summer.

The Cache Valley Melt Mobile aims to help Cache Valley connect with its neighbors and customers, and raise awareness of Cache Valley Cares, a partnership with the Utah Food Bank to help fight hunger. Introduced last year, the Cache Valley Melt Mobile food truck was a big hit at local events, traveling 1,059 miles and serving more than 23,000 grilled cheese samples. Last year alone, Cache Valley donated more than $20,000 to the Utah Food Bank, which helped provide more than 7,800 meals and feed thousands of local families.

Sample and Savor During the Seventh Annual Union of the Birds and the Bees

Join Beehive Cheese, Roosters Brewing Company and Union Grill for a night of food, music and fun during the signature Union of the Birds and the Bees event at Ogden’s Union Station. Enjoy samplings of Roosters beer, award-winning Beehive Cheese and delicious food on July 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. Beehive Cheesemaker Tim Welsh, Roosters Brewmaster Steve Kirkland and Roosters Chef and Owner Pete Buttschardt will collaborate to offer ten beer and food pairings. Hundreds of guests will gather for good beer, fun, food stations and great music under the stars on Union Station’s Fountain Plaza.

Shades of Grey, a rockin’ band from Huntsville, Utah, will create the ultimate vibe performing throughout the event. Tickets are $50 and include a commemorative glass to mark the occasion. Tickets are limited and the event is anticipated to sell out. National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament

The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) is preparing to host its World Tournament at the Dixie Convention Center in St. George, Utah, July 22–Aug. 3.

One thousand thirty-five competitors from 46 U.S. states, four Canadian Provinces, Norway and South Africa will convene at the “Red Rock & Ringers” event to contend for the World Championship title. For the first time, six representatives from Namibia will compete.

The tournament will return to Utah following a 46-year hiatus. The World Championship was held in Murray, Utah 13 times from 1947 to 1966.

Adult competition begins July 22 at 7 a.m. and will continue each morning throughout the preliminary rounds. A small break will occur for the NHPA convention and Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday. Championship rounds begin Thursday, Aug. 1.

Twilight Concert Series- The Flaming Lips

Salt Lake City Arts Council presents the 26th season of the Twilight Concert Series. The series will run July 18th through September 5 every Thursday. The community is invited to come together under the canopy of stars and enjoy some of today’s most impressive names in music.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and music starts at 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 350 W 300 S in downtown Salt Lake. There will be food, beverages and booths with local crafts.
