February is Full of Music at the Egyptian

In February, a new wave of music coming to Park City will replace the Sundance Film Festival's fading echoes.  The Egyptian Theatre is sure to fill seats once again by featuring diverse musical acts that are sure to please every ear.

Shooting Sports Workshop Coming to Salt Lake!

The Utah State University Salt Lake County Extension program is offering a shooting sports course February 1-2 at the Salt Lake County Extension Office and the Lee Kay Shooting Range. The course will take place Friday Feb 1 from 6 pm to 10 pm and on Saturday Feb 2 from 9 am to 3 pm. This may be the only northern Utah training until fall, so make sure to be there! The registration fee is $15, which will cover the range cost and lunch. 

Fiction Family Reunion: A Fusion of Music by Two Popular Artists

Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek join forces at the Complex in Salt Lake City on Friday, February 1 at 7 pm to promote their brand new album, "Fiction Family Reunion," which comes out January 29. This cross of music styles will offer a unique listening experience to the audience as it produces everything from upbeat rock rhythms to folk ballads to the twang of country. This event preludes the duo's tour in support of the charity "To Write Love on Her Arms," which focuses on helping those with addiction and depression issues. An Evening with Judy Collins at the Egyptian

The Egyptian Theatre presents "An Evening with Judy Collins," a night dedicated to the iconic singer as she entrances audiences with her lyric talent. The show will take place February 1-3, from 8 pm to 10 pm on the 1st and 2nd and from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday the 3rd. Collins' performances have remained strong throughout a career spanning almost a half century, and she's not slowing down now. The Little Mermaid Musical at Woods Cross High School

Looking for something that the whole family is sure to enjoy?  Look no further.  During the month of Feburary, Woods Cross High School will be performing Disney's Little Mermaid every Monday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:00 pm, with a performance every Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets wiil be priced $5-$8.

Utah Arts Festival Mask-Making Workshop

You don't have to go to Venice this February to celebrate 2013 Carnival. Create your own masked identity right here in Utah!  Two mask-making workshops will be offered in conjunction with the Utah Arts Festival (UAF) exhibition: Figures and Masks.  

The workshops will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The cost of $30 per person includes materials.

UAF Friends with Benefits can register through Jan. 14, and public registration opens Jan. 15.  Space is limited, so sign up early!

"Renaissance Winds" by Ciaramella

The 15th century comes to life through ancient renaissance sounds created by Ciaramella. The six-member group will showcase their mastery of wind instruments such as the shawm, recorder, bagpipe, slide trumpet and sackbut in this intricately themed performance.

Little Chick Classes-Spring 2013

Bring your little ones to stretch their wings with our educators and birds in Tracy Aviary’s Preschool and Kindergarten classes.

Our classes are offered every other week over a three-month period. Knowing how busy Moms’ and Dads’ schedules can be, each 2-3 and 3-4 class will run as a weekday session, and a Saturday session. 4-5 classes are held on alternating Saturdays, so that you and your busy kindergartener can attend outside of school. Classes feature a special bird visitor, a fun craft or activity, a snack, a sing-along song, and an engaging story connecting with our age-appropriate themes. SLAC Performance: 'How to Make a Rope Swing' by Shawn Fisher

In an exploration of American history, Shawn Fisher's How to Make a Rope Swing will enlighten audience members to who we once were, and who we are today by personalizing racial prejudices and its consequences. Exclusive Red Butte Gardens Greenhouse Tour

Tired of the cold? Miss the lush green of summer? Red Butte Gardens is offering a tour of their renowned greenhouses Thursday, February 7 from noon to 1:30. Music, Murder, and Mayhem Accompany SUU's Production of Chicago

It's sure to be a killer performance of the hit musical Chicago at Southern Utah University. The show will go on February 7-9 and 14-16 at 7:30 pm each evening in the Randall L. Jones Theatre. Directing the production is Brad Carroll, the man behind the wildly successful Utah Shakespeare Festival's rendition of Les Miserables, so there will be no doubt as to the quality of the play. General adult admission is $10, $8 for SUU faculty and staff. Youth/student tickets are $5, and admission is free to SUU students with a valid ID.  

Utah Lyric Opera Presents: La Boheme

This new production of La Boheme, one of Puccini's greatest operas, stars Tony award winner Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller and critically acclaimed tenor Isaac Hurtado.  This production is sure to pull at the heart strings with themes of love, heartache and death in post WWII Paris.  Ticket prices make it possible for everyone to enjoy this cultural experience.

The Egyptian Theatre Presents Canned Heat

If you're in a blues kind of mood, the Egyptian Theatre is hosting Canned Heat on Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9 from 8 pm to 10 pm. This band has carved its way through music history, performing at the Monterey Pop Festival alongside Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and The Who, and the original Woodstock festival in 1969. "Charette" presented by Repertory Dance Theatre

Are you a fan of ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars'? Or, how about "So You Think You Can Dance" on FOX? Red Butte Garden Adventures Class: Learning About Animal Families

Every week Red Butte Gardens hosts the Garden Adventures, fun classes for children where they can learn about the natural world around them. On Saturday, February 9, the theme will be Animal Families, where stories will be shared of the animal families that live in the Garden. The children will also be making a Valentine's craft to share with their loved ones. The class will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am in Em's Sprout House. Ages 4-12 are welcome with a caregiver. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for the general public. Admission cost is not required for caregivers.

On Saturday, February 09, 2013, Art Access will hold its second "Oops! I Ran Out of Wall Space" Art Swap and Sale, where you can bring all that excess original art and sell it in our gallery. Last year's shoppers walked away with some incredible deals on some equally incredible art! So mark your calendars — you won't want to miss this! Like last year, this sale is for selling original (no posters or reproductions) art you've collected, not your own personal art you've created. The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, and sellers will be required to remain with their art. Sellers must arrive between 8 and 9 a.m. to set up. Ring Around the Rose: SpyHop & The Utah Film Center

The Utah Film Center and Spy Hop Productions team up to bring you an interactive animation experience. Come see some great short films made for and by kids, and then help us make a collaborative on-stage movie using stop motion animation to tell a story. We'll invite volunteers on stage to be a part of the magic as the audience watches the whole thing unfold.

"Collaboration!": A Faculty Recital - performed at SUU

Various professors at SUU are joining together to produce all types of music for students, and visitors alike.  This event will enrich the soul, and inspire the minds of all in attendance.  The performance will emphasize to both students and patrons the unique process of faculty working together as artists to produce extraordinary music.  This event is free and open to the public, and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from this event will help Guild members attend the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts annual conference.

"The Day My God Died"- A Documentary

This film is a documentary about the tragedy of child sex trade that happens throughout our world, and profiles those who work courageously to make a change.  With use of hidden cameras Andrew Levine captures the horrible reality that exists for victims of sex trade.  This film is Free, and begins at 7 pm.

Westminster College Presents Valentine’s Concert

It will be quite the romantic evening Thursday, February 14 and Friday February 15 at Westminster College, where their elite Chamber Singers will perform a set of love songs in honor of Valentine's Day. The concert will take place in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall of the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory at 7:30 pm. It will be open to the public, however, admission is limited to those at least six years of age. General public admission is $10 and for all non-Westminster students $5. Directed by Dr. Christopher Quinn, this evening of love is sure to set the mood for all this coming Valentine's Day. Purchase your tickets now!

Phantom of the Opera production at Peery's Egyptian Theatre

Over 200 cast members, orchestra musicians, and luminaries will be performing Phantom of the Opera, presented by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Cameron Mackintosh.  This performance is sure to amaze audiences with astounding HD5.1 acoustics, and state of the art stage productions that will snatch you from reality and transport you into a beautiful portrayal of London's historic eras.  This is a perfect option for Valentine's Day, but you should order your tickets right away because this show will likely be sold out soon.    

A classical performance of the already "classical" Romeo and Juliet

How could Romeo and Juliet get even more classic?  Try putting the story to classical music!  The Utah Symphony will perform musical selections of Romeo and Juliet compositions by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev.  And to make this love story even better, the performances begin on Valentine's day and continue through the weekend.  The intensity, passion and tragedy of this love story is sure to strike a chord in the heart. Pioneer Theatre presents "Clybourne Park"

"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" performance at Hale Centre Theatre

Mummies of the World

Park City Performing Arts: The Intergalactic Nemesis Live-Action Graphic Novel: Book 2

Even though the story being told is set in 1933, the production itself showcases the future of entertainment.  Over 1,000 comic book images will be interpreted through voice, sound effect and music from talented actors and musicians.  The spectacle is sure to be an experience that is out of this world.  All ages are welcome. 

Sewing Skills Workshop with SL County's 4-H: The Pajama Project

The Salt Lake County 4-H will be holding a one day sewing workshop for those of you who would like to brush up on your skills. The workshop will be held on February 16 from 9 am to 2 pm a Riverton High School. Some things participants will learn will be laying out pattern pieces on fabric, cutting the patterns out of fabric, casing at the waist for shoelace ties, sewing seams, and hemming. All of this will be accomplished by making a pair of pajama pants - so don't miss out if you're in need of some sewing schooling, or of a new pair of jammies! SUU's Opus & Wasatch Chorale in Concert

Get ready for some musical fusion as two unique forces combine on Saturday, February 16 at 7:30 pm at the Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City. Southern Utah University's Department of Music is proud to SUU's Opus, the school's own chamber choir, and the Wasatch Chorale in a special choral program. Tickets are $6 for Adults, $4 for SUU faculty and staff and $3 for youth. SUU students are free with a valid I.D. card. 

Free Panel Discussion on Racism

"Racism: Who we are and who we once were" is a panel discussion that is free and open to the public.  This is a great opportunity to sit down as a community and have an open discussion about diversity, and the role it plays within society.  This discussion will take place at the Salt Lake Acting Company on Feb. 17 at 4:00pm. 

African Art Exhibit Now on Display at the Salt Lake Acting Company

Celebrate Black History Month with the Salt Lake Acting Company, who are now hosting a special exhibition of Distinctive African Art. The display can be viewed now until the end of the play "How to Make a Rope Swing," which will conclude March 3. This exhibition is provided by proprieter and curator Gordon Dew, who is known for opening the first and only African American art gallery in Utah. Artists being featured in the gallery include Charles Bibbs, Albert Fennell, William Tolliver, Synthia Saint James, Dr. Raymond Lark, Rosalind McGary and Larry Poncho Brown. 

Huntsman Cup Nor Am Races

The 26th annual Huntsman Cup Nor Am will be hosted by the National Ability Center at Park City Mountain Resort Feb. 20 and 22. The event will be held in the Eagle race arena and will include one day of Giant Slalom racing and one day of Slalom.

Over 60 athletes from across the US, Canada, Mexico, Turkey and Great Britain will compete in the Visually Impaired, Standing and Sitting categories. This is one of three Nor Am level events in North America this season!

SLCC Writing Center Workshop "Memoir Writing: Paint a Life Portrait with Words"

Do you have a personal story to tell? Ever wanted to learn more about chronicling your own experiences? You're in luck. The Salt Lake Community College Writing Center is proud to announce their February writing workshop, Memoir Writing: Paint a Life Portrait with Words. The focus of the workshop is exclusively on memoir writing and ways you can form words out of your life experiences to connect with others. This interactive workshop will take place February 20 and 27 in the SLCC Community Writing Center from 6 pm to 8 pm. The fee for the workshop is $30 per person, registration is required.

Red Butte Gardens is offering the public a tour of their visitor center and Orangerie. Those participating will get an exclusive up-close and personal look at exotic plants, container combinations, and the Garden's breathtaking living wall. Red Butte Offers Botony Classes for Gardeners

A three-day course is now being offered at Red Butte Gardens to help gardeners become a little more knowledgeable and confident in their botony skills and terminology. This hands-on course will be taking place February 21, 28, and March 7 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and is co-sponsored by the University of Utah Continuing Education Lifelong Learning program. Telluride Mountainfilm Tour Coming to Alta!

Alta, Utah will be hosting the Telluride Mountainfilm Tour on Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23 at 6:00 pm at the Our Lady of the Snows Center. This will be an exciting event hosted by Alta's Art Council, a non-profit organization that brings art, cultural, & educational opportunities to the Little Cottonwood Canyon community. Guests are free to bring snacks or dinner to enjoy while experiencing some of the fantastic films that will be screening. New Culinary Institute Opening in Park City, UT

Park City Culinary Institute is launching with a six-day Pastry Event on Main Street at the Treasure Mountain Inn, Feb. 23-28. Master Chef and Sugarcraft artist Toba Garrett will be leading five cake decorating and sugarcraft workshops for professionals and serious amateurs. Classes will include how to make sugar flowers and marzipan fruit, as well as how to create intricate details on cakes such as flowing drapery and piped embroidery.

What do Texas and Venice have in common?  Not much, until the Utah Arts Festival (UAF) combined them for one evening of wild, wild entertainment.  The UAF's Masquerade Ball and Texas Hold 'Em tournament moves to a larger venue this year, making it bigger and better than ever. Attendees can now begin the day in a poker tournament, and dance the night away in elaborate costumes and masks.  Prizes, food, drinks, and great company complete the soiree of the year.

The Winter Tree Tour at Red Butte Gardens

If the white of winter is becoming too glaring, take a break and visit Red Butte Gardens, where they are offering a special Winter Trees Tour. Come Saturday, February 23 anytime between 10 am and noon and take in the vast variety of evergreen and deciduous trees known for their array of colors and textures. This event will be regular Garden admission for the general public and free for members. Visit website for admission prices. 

Friends of Art Works for Kids Hosts a Day at Capitol Hill

On February 26, students from six elementary schools will be performing on behalf of the Friends of Art Works for Kids, an initiative created to advocate for the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program on Capitol Hill. Parents and community members will get the chance to show their support for the arts programs in schools, which suffered cuts in funding last year by state legislators. The program will include singing, dancing, and theater as the students showcase the importance of the arts in schools. There will also be visual works of art from schools across the state on display. Come and show your support for the arts!

Learn to Love Your Trees: Fabulous Fruit Trees Course Offered at Red Butte

Always been jealous of the plump, perfect fruit harvested year after year from your neighbor's trees? Now it can be your turn. Learn to nourish your own trees and produce beautiful fruit in a special three-day class at Red Butte Gardens, funded in part by the University of Utah Continuing Education Lifelong Learning program. This course will teach you how to care for your existing trees and how to give new ones a healthy beginning. The class will take place Tuesday February 26, Saturday March 2, and Tuesday March 5. SUU Presents: "A Very English Evening: Songs of Britain"

It's an evening fit for royalty: Southern Utah University is proud to present A Very English Evening: Songs of Britain, a beautiful choral concert scheduled for Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 pm at the Heritage Center Theatre in Cedar City. SUU's Chamber Choir Opus, as well as their Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Kevin L. Baker as well as the Women's Choir under the direction of Sara Guttenburg will entertain audiences with music by some of England's most celebrated composers, including Gilbert, Sullivan, and Benjamin Britten. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for SUU faculty and staff, and $3 for youth. The concert is free for SUU students with a valid ID. Don't miss out on this evening of England's greatest!

"Dish Mob" Coming to Sushi Groove!

Coming to Salt Lake city is a new, unique style of the popular movement known as "flash mobs": a "Dish Mob." Restaurant.com will be hosting a Dish Mob event at Sushi Groove on Wednesday, February 27 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The dish mobs were created in collaboration with local community members and organizations to prompt residents to dine out at restaurants in their communities that are independently owned and operated. Various media personnel will be attending the event to capture the fun, so don't miss an opportunity for a photo op! Come for a once-in-a-lifetime flash mob experience!

Sheryl Crow is Hitting Salt Lake City to Perform a Benefit Concert

Sheryl Crow is coming to town! The Grammy-award winning singer will perform at the Salt Palace on Thursday, February 28 from 7 to 9:30 pm. In addition to the music, which will feature songs from her brand new album being released later this year, a buffet-style dinner will be served, and a cash bar will be provided. All proceeds from this event will go to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, whose headquarters are located right here in Salt Lake City. The concert is open to all those aged 18 and older. "A Company of Wayward Saints" at Moab Community Theater
