Every decade or so the Junior League of Salt Lake City publishes a recipe collection illustrating Utah’s unique and diverse landscape of food. Last February the League released Salt to Honey: Recipes for Great Gatherings to celebrate the organization’s 80th anniversary. Filled with fresh recipes utilizing local products and produce, Salt to Honey reflects modern cooking and food trends in a way that’s anything but matronly or old-fashioned. “We really wanted to focus on the local food movement and current trends in cooking, but make the recipes very accessible and appetizing at the same time,” says Heidi Makowski, Salt to Honey committee chair and director of development for the University of Utah’s College of Fine Arts.
