StyleByte: Vacation wear must-haves

Summer is a time for pool parties, backyard BBQ's, and hopefully some fun travels. But often packing for your vacation can be more stressful than planning the get-away; especially since there are no hall passes for bad outfits. What clothing do you bring and what can you leave behind? Versatility is going to be the key to your success. Find items that can appropriately be worn from day to night. Sound difficult? Let my check-list be your chic guide to a quick and pain-free pack.

Dresses - A versatile dress is a must!  A beautiful flowy maxi screams warm weather vacation; keep it simple with white or go trendy with a floral pattern. An easy body-con dress (meaning form-fitting) can also be a great option, especially in navy or stripes (which are a bit softer than black).

Shorts - Shorts have come a long way and should now be a staple in your summer wardrobe. There are plenty of nice options that can be worn casually to the pool or dressed up for a stroll around town. When choosing a short, opt for a more sophisticated fabric like silk, viscose, polyester, or even linen, which will allow you to more easily wear them from day to night. The 'come-back' skort is also a great option (again choose in a nice fabric) as it elevates the look even further.

Pants -  My all-time favorite trend this summer is the return of the Palazzo pant; they are your go-to item for your journey. They are light weight, they pack well, and they look effortlessly chic.  They are perfect for the plane when the air conditioner is cranked, or nice to hide that first-day sunburn. A polyester-blend in a pattern is a nice choice or a solid Linen (like white or navy) continues to be a fail-proof staple.

Tops -  Don't let great bottoms steal the show; a fabulous top whether in silk or a blend is equally as important. Ditch the cotton tank for something more exciting. An interesting detail on the front or an asymmetrical angle can take the outfit from blah to bam!

Shoes - I always seem to walk quite a bit on vacation so finding comfortable, stylish, yet versatile shoes can be a challenge. Although over the years, I have found that all you really need are three great pairs: an espadrilles, a killer sandal, and an elevated flip flop will do the trick. Don't waste the luggage space bringing 10 pairs of shoes; three easy picks and your done. The exception would be a more dressy evening shoe, and then I would opt for a neutral-colored wedge so that it will go with everything.

Swimwear - If you are still wearing your swimsuit from years ago, now is the time to swap it for something better. A  tankini or a one-piece are perfect when you are not feeling tip-top. You can still be sexy and covered at the same time.  If you have been working on your figure all winter and are ready for the bikini, pick one that is right for your body. A good swimsuit is like a good bra; fit is everything. And if your heading somewhere very hip, grab a bikini with fringe; it's all the rage this season.

.
Cover-ups - I love an easy light-weight cover-up.  A cover-up does not have to be a mumu of sorts, there are darling options that can almost pass as a dress or a great top.  Throw one in on your next vacation; you'll be happy that you did.

Beach bag - A cute beach-bag is the perfect accessory to make your outfit complete. The larger the better in my opinion; however, it all depends on how many items you like to carry.

Packing the right items that are both functional and versatile can make any vacation easier. Opt for quality this summer instead of quantity, that way you can focus on what's really important on your trip; whatever, that might be. As always, if you have questions or need help, please come and see either Shellie or me.  Our doors are always open. XX Ashley
