The journalists covering former Attorney General John Swallow's spreading scandal (dare we say Swallowgate?) are among the winners of the Better Beehive Awards, handed out by the Alliance for a Better UTAH.

Better UTAH specifically named reporters Robert Gehrke of the SLTrib and Eric Peterson of City Weekly for their work in covering (and uncovering) the story that ultimately led to Swallow's resignation. Investigations into Swallow continue.

Other winners this year are:

Utah Parents Against Gun Violence, who worked with the Utah Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics to develop a gun safety campaign to protect kids.

Medical doctor and Utah Sen. Brian Shiozawa, R-Cottonwood Heights, was honored for taking a principled stand supporting medicaid expansion.

Provo was honored for hosting its first gay pride festival.

Linda Hilton, director of community outreach for Crossroads Urban Center and director of the Coalition of Religious Communities, received the award for two decades of advocating for Utah's poor.
