Five years ago, two women courageously, optimistically (some might say foolishly) opened a small restaurant in the middle of beer-centric Utah (in the shadow of a baseball park, no less) dedicated to the pleasure of pairing wine and food. All restaurants have a slim chance of surviving their first year in business. After five years, something like 60 percent have failed.
All the more reason to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Meditrina Small Plates & Wine Bar coming up next week.
During the week of Nov. 12-17,Meditrina Small Plates & Wine Bar will be celebrating its fifth anniversary. According to co-owner Jen Gilroy, the focal point of the anniversary celebration will be the restaurant's monthly wine social, held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
The theme of the wine social will be "Anniversary, Italian Syle," featuring Italian food-and-wine pairings priced at $10 for food and $10 for wine.
Three imported Italian wines will be matched with three light Italian-fusion food pairings, and the importer of the wines will be on hand to discuss them.
The wines being poured are Maculan "Pino & Toi" from Veneto, La Carraia Sangiovese from Umbria, and Valle Reale Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
This event is sure to sell out, so make reservations by calling 801-485-2055.
And, happy anniversary to the crew at Meditrina!
