Mere birthright alone doth not a Utahn create. What makes a true local? We say it is not the number of years you've lived within Zion's borders, but rather the zeal with which you explore all our state has to offer. If you're new, or if you're questioning your right to citizenship, we're here to help, with this refresher course. Every other week, we'll bring you a quintessential Utah-to-do experience. Check back for another to check off your list.

Now Utah’s top ski town, few know about Park City’s early days of liquor, gambling and brothels in the 1800s. This “Sin City” in the mountains also had its share of angry mobs, unexplained deaths and murder. Some say ghosts of those whose lives ended abruptly during this period still linger, and Park City Ghost Tours wants you to meet them.

Erik Hutchins and his business partner Rob Newey originally set out to write a book or film a documentary on Park City’s ghosts, but after researching the topic, they decided to take a more hands-on approach to educate visitors on the city’s afterlife. Since 2010, Park City Ghost Tours has held walking tours of Main Street and Park Avenue, pointing out haunted hotspots along the way.

Ghosts on the tour include Lizzy, who was killed by her husband at the Imperial Hotel after he discovered she was dabbling in prostitution; Black Jack Murphy, whom vigilantes strung up near what’s now Kimball Arts Center after he murdered a miner; and The Man in the Yellow Slicker, a ghostly death omen to any who see him.
