A great thing about using everyday household products for beauty purposes isn’t just that it saves money, but also that it works just as well – sometimes better – as the expensive stuff you might buy at the beauty supply.

Chances are you have these next few products always on hand or laying around the house, so check out the benefits they can have for your beauty routine.

While tea can offer major health benefits when you drink it, it also serves beauty purposes beyond that. Steep two tea bags, then freeze. Lay the frozen bags on your under-eye area for about ten minutes to lessen swelling.

Frozen teaspoons are also a good remedy for eye puffiness, but did you know they also make an excellent eyelash curler? Simply place the edge of the spoon at the root of the eyelash and press lashes against the curved side. Gently slide the spoon up and away from the lashes, and voila: natural looking curl.

It might be easier to explain how baking soda doesn’t come in handy. The list might be shorter. As far as beauty goes, we already know it’s a great ingredient in toothpaste, and on its own it helps to naturally whiten teeth without harsh chemicals. It’s a fantastic deodorizer. But one you might not have considered is its exfoliating ability. Simply mix baking soda with bit of warm water to form a paste. Gently massage the mixture onto the face in circular motions. Rinse with warm water and your skin immediately feels smoother.

Of course brushing your teeth is a regular hygiene must, but a soft bristle toothbrush has other uses, too. Use a clean, soft toothbrush to gently scrub dead skin off your lips. You can also use one for taming hair flyaways. Simply brush the small hairs into place and then finish with hairspray.

Vinegar has almost as many uses as baking soda, at least when it comes to household maintenance. For use as a beauty product, soak nails in a mixture of vinegar and water or apply the vinegar to a cotton ball and wipe nails. The vinegar helps remove excess oils from the nail and prep it so polish won’t bubble. It also helps the polish adhere better so your manicure lasts longer.
