Snowbird is holding the grand opening for its new Mountain Coaster this weekend.

The coaster, which has been running since Saturday, sends riders up 160 vertical feet, and then carries them down the mountain, through trees and around two horizontal loops, before ending at the base of the Peruvian Express Chairlift. At the end, you'll have gone 3,120 linear feet. Each car holds two people, and the speed is controlled by the driver.

For the grand opening, a special package will be offered, including lodging and unlimited rides on the coaster.

In a recent press release, Dave Fields, Vice President of Resort Operations said "Riding the Mountain Coaster is a thrilling adventure, and is a wonderful addition to our mix of summer activities." Guess that means we'd better head up to Snowbird and try it out.

The Mountain Coaster is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day, and then Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, or $12 to upgrade form an All Day Activities Pass.

More reasons to head up to Snowbird this weekend are Oktoberfest, horseback tours, mountain biking, and other rides like the Aerial Tram, Peruvian Chairlift and Tunnel, Alpine Slide and Mountain Flyer.
