How to be a Utahn: Run in a Mud Run

Aug 14th 2013

Mere birthright alone doth not a Utahn create. What makes a true local? We say it is not the number of years you've lived within Zion's borders, but rather the zeal with which you explore all our state has to offer. If you're new, or if you're questioning your right to citizenship, we're here to help, with this refresher course on a quintessential Utah-to-do experience. Check back for another to check off your list.

Utah's beautiful landscape is a huge draw for tourists—our snowcapped mountains, our red rock desserts. But you don't hear about tourists coming in for Utah's mud. Nope, that's a local thing. We like our 5Ks a little different, with plenty of color, light and even foam runs. But arguably, the best alternative to the average run is the mud run. If you haven't been in one yet, put it on your list of essential Utah experiences.

“The Muddy Cruddy” Race Against the Odds 5K and Fun Run

Mud run with plenty of obstacles are more to get you covered in mud than to pose any serious threat. All proceeds benefit The Cure Starts Now Foundation for pediatric brain cancer research.

Aug. 17, Mid Valley Park, 5806 Pony Express Parkway, Eagle Mountain. Click here for more info.

Kiss Me Dirty

This 5K will make you hop, skip, jump and scramble your way to the finish line. All proceeds go to gynecological cancer research. For girls only.

Aug. 24, Salt Lake Co. Equestrian & Events Center, 2100 W. 11400 South, South Jordan. Click here for more info.

Man vs. Mud

It's been voted Utah's best mud run. Over 28 obstacles in a 5K run. And if you're really in shape, go for the course with additional challenges that are not included in the regular event.

Aug. 31, American West Heritage Center, 4025 S. Highway 89-91, Wellsville. Click here for more info.

The Dirty Dash

It's 5.5 miles (3.5 if you take the shortcut). Either way, you'll end up a mess by the end of it in one of Utah's best spots to get messy, Soldier Hollow. Plenty of obstacles, some costumed runners.

Sept. 14, Soldier Hollow, 2002 Olympic Way, Midway. Click here for more info.
