Haystack onions and a create-your-own Smashburger at the new location.

Today, Midvale locals and commuters will have another lunch option with Smashburger opening new digs. Salt Lake magazine was at a preview party for the new burger joint Tuesday night.

Joining Smashburgers all over the country, and even in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica, it's definitely not a local chain, but Smashburger does pay attention to what locals like to eat. "We have a custom burger in each region," says Leah Pilcer, Smashburger spokesperson. Utah's burger is the Beehive burger, which gets its name from its honey barbecue sauce. They also have their own fry sauce.

Utah already had Smashburgers in Sugar House, West Valley and Provo, but this new location is expected to have the highest volume of customers (aside from maybe the SLC airport location).

"It's because of the location," says Caroline Brown, media relations manager for The Summit Group, which represents Smashburger. She says the West Valley location gets a big lunch crowd, but the mix of businesses all around and suburbs nearby is going to pull more customers to Midvale.

The new location is at 7020 Union Park Ave., Midvale.
