Fresh off a successful box office run in film, the musical production of Les Miserables returns to the stage with renewed vitality.  Three Oscar wins and nearly $440 million in worldwide movie sales brought this classic story of transformation, redemption and compassion back to life. Now it's time for theater to take back the limelight. It's been over 25 years since the first performance of Les Miserables, and now The Pioneer Theatre Company (PTC) helps jump start the next 25 years.

PTC is bringing Les Miserables back to Salt Lake City for one month, and one of the most beloved musicals of all time is sure to be just as beloved in Salt Lake the second time around. In 2007, the PTC Les Miserables production broke records and sold out 10 straight weeks of performances. While the 2013 production runs for only four weeks, two extra weeks were added because of popular demand. Needless to say, many performances have limited or very limited seating already.

The 34 member cast includes exceptional national and local talent. Joe Cassidy takes the lead role of Jean Valjean, the reformed prisoner. Cassidy has accrued a long Broadway resume that includes Show Boat, Catch Me If You Can and 1776 as well as performances and roles in TV and Film. This is his PTC debut. The gifts of young local singers will be heard in the character roles of young Gavroche, young Cosette and young Eponine. Members of the ensemble cast also hail from our own backyard.

Charles Morey directed PTC's first Les Miserables production, and returns for another round. His illustrious career has included 80 productions for PTC since 1984.
