For those looking for some family-friendly entertainment a bit north of Salt Lake City, look no further than Centerville (about 20 minutes or less from downtown). In a city known more for historic homes than entertainment, CenterPoint Theatre is a gem, raising the bar when it comes to local on-stage productions. They're slogan: "Broadway magic, Utah style."
CenterPoint has been entertaining for three years now. "Before we were CenterPoint, we were Rogers Memorial Theatre," says Executive Director Jansen Davis, "And even after the name change and improvement to the facility, we still have a loyal following from our community and visitors across the Wasatch Front." Reguars come from as far as Logan and Provo.
The new 525-seat facility showcases plays throughout the year, like Fiddler On The Roof, The Secret Garden, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The majority of the production staff and actors are actually volunteers. "One of our largest productions included 100 volunteers, and nearly 16,000 hours of volunteer service," Davis says.
If you think you have a hidden talent or are an aspiring actor, go to an open audition at CentrePoint Theatre and give it a shot. Who knows, maybe the secret of finding entertainment for yourself or your family, is knowing how to be a part of it.
