We are the Beehive State and it's time to own it! Heck, yeah.
For those of you who still think we got that bug nickname because we've got copious amounts of Apis mellifera buzzin' around, fuggetaboutit.
It's because the powers that be want us Utahns to be as industrious as a hive of bees (and follow the orders that come down from the top, ask no questions and so on and so forth).
The Utah beehive metaphor falls apart, of course, because the boss of the hive, so far, has never been a queen or even a female.
Now go and enjoy the Utah Cultural Celebration Center's exhibit of all things beehive, including beehive-themed art by Utah contemporary artists and bee-related artifacts.
March 7 – April 24, Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 South, 801-965-5100, culturalcelebration.org
And it's free. Beelieve it.
