Chances are the most versatile piece of clothing hanging in your closet right now is the one you paid the least for: the basic white t-shirt.

It’s a piece that works with just about anything, fits any body type and can go from a little more casual to a little more dressy.

Hot right now is the tee with a deeper v-neck and relaxed, looser fit. It can be tucked, untucked or even tied to suit your mood. And probably the best part about it is that there’s no need to spend a boatload or hunt down the perfect one. I found a great one at Old Navy for only $7.50.

There are about a hundred ways to pair it, but here are a few of my favorites that say "effortless" while still giving a nod to "put together."

With more white:

Talk about a white-hot trend. White on white is super chic, and when you pair it with a pop of color like this soft yellow blazer, it screams spring.

Michael Kors Skinny Jeans, Macy's, $79.50 | Silver Tuxedo by Rag & Bone, Cake Boutique, $495

With a slim skirt:

Tuck it into a pencil skirt, throw on a statement necklace, and you're good to go. Simple as that.

Pencil Skirt in Floral Jacquard, ASOS, $68 | Isis Bib Necklace, Anthropologie, $398

With another closet staple:

A pair of well tailored bootcut jeans and a really great bag are all you need to rock this timelessly classic look.
