Duchesne Ridge

Intermediate/advanced hike with a nice three-mile uphill followed by a single track downhill, so pack a snack.

Distance: 13 miles, round trip

Elevation gain: 1,500 feet

Time: Two to three hours (brisk pace)

Trail: Starts on country road and takes you through singletrack.

Who you'll see: Some mountain bikers, some cross-country skiers (in the right season), some runners. In other words: Everyone.

How to get there: Highway 248 to Kamas. State Route 32 east. Go 15 miles till you see the sign for Mill Hollow. Try not to play the Deliverance theme on your way out. You'll get scared. Park at Mill Hollow reservoir. Hunters like this area, too, so fall might not be the best time to hike. So go right now, and take advantage of what's left of the summer.

Eco-conscious: Plenty of plastic bottles/beer cans to pick up around the start/finish area.

Best time of year to go: This trail is pretty deserted year-round (P.S. Hike with a friend on this one).

Apres-hike: Uinta Cutthroat at Blue Boar Inn, 435-654-1400
