This summer, your lips are your biggest fashion statement.

Utah's dry heat doesn't do your skin any favors. And with your lips being some of your bod's most vulnerable real estate, keeping them preened and sheened this season can be a daunting task. But these days, it's easier than you think. For one, it seems that those uber-moisturizing natural/organic lip products we love are learning to incorporate pigments that have more impact, while conventional brands seem to be catching on that moisture is just as important as long-wear color. With that good news in mind, here's how you can keep your cute little kisser smooth and on-trend all summer long.

1. Prep

First, get the scales off with this foolproof scrub: Take 1 tablespoon each of granulated sugar, honey, olive oil and (optional) coffee grounds (used or not), and mix together with your fingers. Then dab as much as needed onto your lips and scrub off all the rough patches. Rinse with warm water, and repeat until smooth! Immediately slather with a gentle lip balm (I love Wild Willow (www.wildwillow.com) Organic Lip Balm, $3), and let itset for a few minutes.

2. Pump up the Color

Then the fun part. Summer's the season to ditch the heavy eye makeup and let the lips do the talking. This means, you can go as bold as you want, baby! In an unofficial poll (of fashionable friends and beauty store owners), these are the colors you've gotta grab.

MAC' lipstick in Violetta, $28; Nordstrom

Colorblocking's not just for clothes. Use this dense shade on your lips with a tangerine top and you'll be the belle of the beach party.

TARTE LipSurgence natural lip tint in Spirited, $24; tartecosmetics.com

This luxuriously moisturizing crayon contains all-natural ingredients, and this hue is—hello—as hot as it gets this season! I wear it at least once a week with a matching blouse and gold-glittery eye.

Smashbox Pout Lipstick, $18; Splendor Beauty Emporium in Park City

Both jam-packed with moisturizing properties (vitamin E and Tahitian flower) AND cruelty-free, this award-winning, girly shade goes with just about any floral sundress or spicy bikini.

3. Set

Lastly, seal with your favorite sheer lipgloss, and you're ready to sip Bud Light Lime (or Wasatch Summer Ale for us grown-ups) in style!
