The FIRST Lego League is an international competition organized for elementary and middle school students that teaches kids how to engage in team work, prepare scientific projects and design LEGO robots. Each year a new challenge is announced, and students have to get together, in order to come up with a solution to various problems.

This year, the Utah FIRST LEGO League 2012 season is open, and it’s all about Senior Solutions. In this new challenge, children will be experiencing how aging may affect a person’s lifestyle.

Register your team before September, and start building, programming and testing a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS. Teams will research obstacles and suggest ways to improve the quality of life for seniors. This competition is divided in four sections: Teamwork activity, technical presentation, research project and usage of the final designed robot to complete a set of tasks.

Teams can get an additional award based on their robot’s performance during the robot game competition. If you’re a not a student but wish to participate, you can also volunteer or sponsor the program.
