This Cinco de Mayo, celebrate two more events worthy of celebration. May 5 is also Free Comic Book Day, which has become like a holiday for geeks all over the country and the perfect opportunity to up your kid’s literacy with action-packed comics. It’s also the first day of the Urban Bird Festival at Tracy Aviary.

Free Comic Book Day

Take the kids to your local comic book shop on May 5 to get not one, not two or even three, but a whole stack of free comic books from different publishers.

Many comic shops couple Free Comic Book Day with big sales on other merchandise as well. And yes, there is a free Avengers comic to hype the movie now in theaters.

It’s first come first serve. Click here to see this year’s free comic book selection.
