Finally! We have a little more than brick and mortar shots of the new City Creek Center. Macy's and Nordstrom hosted back-to-back media days this week, inviting us to take a peek as they fill up the clothing racks, shoe floors and cosmetics counters.

Nordstrom

Let's start with Nordstrom, shall we? The high-end department store is back downtown after shuttering its doors in January 2007. This time around the Seattle-based shop has upped the glam factor, starting with a shoe floor packed with luxury and contemporary brands like Prada, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent, B Brian Atwood, Rachel Zoe, Tory Burch, Stuart Weitzman, among others. The shoe floors, one for men and one for women's, take up a significant chunck of floorspace, fitting since Nordstrom got it's start as a footwear retailer in 1901.

Gucci (yes, Gucci) is also making a home at Nordstrom with several mini-shops scattered throughout the store, including a handbag shop-in-shop and apparel boutique. It's the perfect high-end accompaniment to a product mix that includes Armani and Trish McEvoy cosmetics, contemporary clothing by the likes of Alice + Olivia and Alexander Wang and juniors duds by Jessica Simpson Steve Madden.

The restaurant, Sixth & Pine, overlooks Temple Square and offers a cozy kind of diner cafe vibe. No alcohol, of course, given the mall was built on LDS Church land, but that's a mall-wide mandate (save for the Cheesecake Factory and Texas de Brazil, both major chains. Lucky ducks.)

Everything else was still coming together when we stopped in, with assocaites and workers filling the racks, hanging lights and dressing nude mannequins. Artwork from 11 Utah artists--including Janell James, Brent Godfrey and Nash Nartinez--were already hung throughout the store, offering a nod to the Beehive State and bringing a touch of local to the national name.

We had a little fun shooting some video of the progress and hope it gives you an idea of what's to come for the grand opening March 22. For a full list of grand opening events, visit Nordstrom online.

Macy's

Over at Macy's, which has adopted the famous 180-year-old ZCMI facade as the Main Street face of the store, housewares, home textiles and luggage have taken equal real estate with men's, women's and kids' fashion and accessories from the likes of Coach, Michael Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren and Material Girl (this is Madonna and daughter Lourdes' juniors line, so think edgy 80s meets 2012).

The store is Utah's seventh Macy's at 150,000 square feet across three floors. That's a fair amount of shoes (900 styles), juicers, linens and dishes. Big-name Macy's brands from Rachel Bilson (remember teen drama The O.C.?), Martha Stewart, Jessica Simpson and Betsy Johnson, among others are in the mix. And, with that much space, Macy's has upped the green factor by lighting the store with LED fixtures, which last five to seven years, and implementing a storewide recycling program.

Macy's has a packed line-up of events in the days leading up the the City Creek Grand opening, including a community shopping day on March 17. Discounts are offered to early birds who want to snag some extra percentage off, and a portion of the proceeds will go to dozens of local charities like Peace House, the Girl Scouts of Utah, Bountiful Community Food Bank and the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Utah. Visit Macy's for all the details.

Other events on Macy's shopping docket include the grand opening shopping party, immediately after the ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on March 22 and Family Fun Day on March 24, the store's first official Saturday, starting at 2 p.m.
