Ah, The Off Broadway Theatre—known for its hilarious parodies, comedies and improv shows and also just what the doctor ordered for this time of year when winter seems never-ending. Laughter, you know, is an excellent medicine... especially for the wintertime blues.
So whether your cup of comedy tea is to participate in or patronize the OBT, here are a couple opportunities that are probably right up your alley.
Gleek School Musical – Running Feb. 10–Mar. 10
Think Glee meets High School Musical, and you've probably got a mental image of a lot of teenagers singing and dancing. But throw in a precise two minute and fifty-three second rendition of “Hamlet, The Musical,” and you’ve got an extra helping of awesome.
Show times: Monday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (No Monday show on Feb. 13).

Sheer-luck Homes & Snotson Auditions—Feb. 11
OBT is also holding auditions for its spring production of "Sheer-luck Homes & Snotson," written and directed by Cody K. Carlson. This parody follows the adventures of the wacky investigator and his sidekick (yes, his name is Snotson) against their arch nemesis, Gory-hearty. The mystery? A killer who scares his victims to death.
Saturday, Feb. 11 from noon–3 p.m. at The Off Broadway Theatre, 272 S. Main Street, SLC
Auditions are open to adults 18 years and up. Auditioners should come prepared to do cold readings from the script and bring a current head shot and resume. Actors are unpaid, but there are opportunities to earn a small stipend.
This production will run from from March 30 to April 2, and show dates are Monday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (No Monday performance on April 2).
