With Thanksgiving weekend and a lot of people entering into four-day weekends, let's see what Salt Lake Valley has to offer, shall we?

A fun album-release show will be at the Urban Lounge on Friday night as local rockers Max Pain and The Groovies celebrate their new cd "Tortilla Gold." The funky band will also have support from Spell Talk. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.

Friday and Saturday also offers a chance at some yucks when comedian Todd Barry, pictured above in the lower photo, hits Wiseguys in West Valley City. Barry, who had a small role in "The Wrestler" first burst onto the scene as "Todd the Video Clerk" in the 1990s Comedy Central show "Dr Katz, Professional Therapist." He's also appeared multiple times on "The Late Show with David Letterman." Tickets are $20 and available through wiseguyscomedy.com. Each night features a 7 and a 9 p.m. show.

On Saturday, don't forget that sweet country-rock songstress Jesse Sykes and The Sweet Hereafter, shown above, will be at the Urban along with openers The Devil Whale. This is a terrific show from the Seattle-based psych-rock band in the middle of a holiday weekend. Tickets are a mere $8. Don't miss it and expect a good crowd.

Here's Jesse's song "The Air Is Thin," from the group's 2007 release "Like Love, Lust and the Open Halls of the Soul,"
