There’s a lot of stylish peeps in the Beehive State and we want to start throwing those fashionistas—and fashionistos—a few more props for making Utah look a little sleeker and chicer.
Every month we’ll bring you highlights from the streets of Salt Lake, whether we talk to a local rocking out a wicked look (like this week’s Darrell Peterson of the Liberty Wells neighborhood) or a report on hottest trends about town.
We stopped the super dapper, yet casual, Peterson on Thursday evening as he walked his precious pooch Gustav near Liberty Park.
“Overdressed is best,” Peterson says. “I dress up for everything, even when I go to the grocery store or on an airplane. Who cares if you’re stuck with a bunch of people wearing sweats? You look good, and that makes you feel good.”
His I’m-ready-for-fall look features lots of layers and mixing color with seasonal neutrals. “You can wear the hoodie alone and have more of a casual look or go for a sporty thing with the jacket,” he says, noting his look was pulled from a mix of local shops like Name Droppers to out-of-state finds from big, national chains. “I like to have a different look all the time.”
And, Peterson, who just returned from a four-month stint in New York City and counts Spark Clothing and Decades Vintage Clothing among his fave local shops, says he’s anxiously awaiting Salt Lake’s stylish expansion with the upcoming opening of H&M in Murray and the soon-to-come City Creek Center. “I love shopping in Las Vegas and New York, and am so excited for the reinvention of downtown and [Fashion Place Mall].”
