Next month, BYU basketball star Jimmer Fredette will be playing two exhibition games at both West Valley City's Maverick Center on Sept. 21 and Provo's Marriott Center on Sept. 22. This is Utah's opportunity to bid bon voyage to Jimmer before he journeys to his new home with the Sacramento Kings.

More info and tickets can be found at the maverikcenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Fans can also contact the Provo Marriott Center at byutickets.com or by calling 801-422-BYU1 where he will be playing in his old environment: BYU's home basketball court.

Being a recent BYU student myself, I, along with the rest of the BYU student body, feel a strange kinship with Jimmer Fredette, especially since I have witnessed his progress throughout the years. However, this summer in the hussle and bussle of my own graduation, I forgot all about BYU's famous icon. But don't worry; BYU remedied this folly. Stamped in the top right corner of my picture proofs taken of me during the graduation procession is an icon of Jimmer in all his basketball glory. Forget about putting our mascot, a cougar, in the corner. Step aside Cosmo, Jimmer has become BYU's mascot. No, he's more than that—he's a heroic figure.

Hero is actually the perfect title for Jimmer  since he has led BYU to victory time and time again, scoring on average 28.9 points at every game. His consistency has impressed more than just BYU students. California's Sacremento Kings caught scent of his high earned honors in basketball and AP Player of the Year Award and decided to draft him early this Spring.
