What's better than doing service to help out children with a life-threatening illness? Not much. But when you combine the service with a challenge, well, who could resist?

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah is hosting Urban Challenge Utah: The Ultimate Wish Adventure. Using clues, teams of two people will travel throughout Salt Lake City to complete tasks that challenge the body and mind. The course is completely top secret to keep teams from gaining an unfair advantage, but it will start and end at the Gallivan Center and will include major attractions and landmarks throughout Salt Lake City. Running and cycling WILL be involved, so if you're not able to keep up, it may be best to just help out by funding a team.

Teams gain points before and during the competition in three categories: fundraising (hope points), challenges (strength points) and social (joy points). You can win your team points by posting videos on YouTube, wearing costumes to the race day, creating a fundraising site, encouraging other teams to register, fundraising, and much more.

If the fun and service weren't enough for you, the Foundation is providing even more of an incentive: prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each individual category, but you'd better sit down for the grand prize: A seven day trip for four to Akumal, Mexico, including round-trip airfare, beach community accommodations, and transportation. Ready to go sign up yet?

You can find more information on the event at urbanchallengeutah.com. Urban Challenge Utah participants must be at least 12 years old to participate. There's a $100 registration fee per team through June 24, and $125 per team on June 25.

I will most likely be participating with my roommate. I already have a deep respect for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for what they had granted to a boy in my neighborhood who died a year and a half ago from cancer. This sounds like a totally fun way to spend a Saturday! So grab a buddy, get out there and raise funds and get in shape for the Urban Challenge Utah. See you there, folks!
