Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite Disney movie when I was a kid. What's not to love, except the "handsome prince" that was better looking as a beast than a human? Singing and dancing cutlery, a princess that made things happen her way rather than meekly taking what the world gave her and plenty of action to balance the romance made for a young kid's field day.

The Center Stage Youth Performers based in Pleasant Grove are putting on their own Beauty and the Beast production, showing April 22, 23, 25, and 27-30.

The play is a 75-minute version of the Broadway musical. The entire cast are between the ages of 7 and 18 and from Utah County.

Addison McArthur plays Belle, Jaxson Dayton is Gaston, and Dallin Cloward is the Beast. A complete cast list isn't up, but I'm looking forward to seeing an adorable little 7-year-old playing Chip, or the other dancing and singing dishes.

A favorite from my youth being coupled with the overwhelming cuteness of child actors on stage may just be too much for me to handle, but I have high hopes. This is definitely one performance I am not about to miss, so check back for a review of opening night.

Beauty and the Beast Jr. will be performed at the Covey Center of Arts in Provo.
