Utah's rep as a teetotalling state is going down the drain, thank goodness. Not only are we famous for our great beer (see the January/February issue of Salt Lake magazine), we now have award-winning concoctions in other alcohol categories.

Our friend at PCTV, Ori Hoffer, hosts a Drink of the Week with our friend Jimmy Santangelo, the Virtual Sommelier. (By the way, Jimmy also runs the Wine and Service Acadamy of Utah; he just started teaching another session of classes for certification by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. In a recent show, the focus was all on Utah spirits: High West Distillery, Vida tequila and Underground.

And Kiler Grove, Utah's first urban winery, has opened its doors-check out Rhone-style varietals grown in Paso Robles in a tasting room very near you-53 Truman Ave., Salt Lake City.
